Gilt pocket watch, pair cases, verge – John Leroux, London, c1780. Gilt pair cases, 55 mm. A fine quality verge, by an excellent London maker. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, and blued screws. A lever on the side of the dial at 8 oclock stops and restarts the movement. Signed and numbered (3483). This movement is in excellent condition, and is running well. DIAL : Beautiful, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Matching arrowhead gold hands. All in excellent condition. INNER CASE : Yellow metal, with no makers mark. In very good condition throughout. The high dome bulls eye crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : Yellow metal, again with no makers mark. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. John Leroux (1750 1805) is listed at 8 Charing Cross, London. He is known for his development of the lever movement following Thomas Mudges invention of the escapement. Gilt oval case pocket watch, verge repeater, c1800

Gilt brass cases, 79 mm. Verge, quarter repeating movement. A Swiss quarter repeater, in a very large and unusual oval hunter case. MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with small silver regulator disk, and beautifully pierced and engraved balance bridge with polished steel coquerette. All in good condition. Running well and repeating correctly, striking on two blued steel gongs. DIAL : White enamel dial, in quite good condition. One hairline running through the centre from 3 to 9, chips around the winding aperture and a few scratches. Blued steel Breguet type hands. CASE : A very large, oval, gilt brass half hunter case. The movement is accessed by an inner cover to the back, so it is wound (and hands set) through two small holes in the crystal. However the crystal is acrylic and the front of the inner case would originally of opened to access, so this a later modification. Originally the dial would have had an undrilled mineral crystal and the inner front cover would have lifted to access the dial for winding and setting. Gilt pocket watch, repousse case, verge – Godfrie Poy, London, c1720. Gilt repousse case, 55.5 mm. A fine English verge with gilt dial, in a very unusual repousse case showing St. George and the Dragon. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with a wide D shaped foot and engraved mask. Four Egyptian pillars and large silver regulator disk. Ruby endstone, held within a blued steel cap. Signed Godfrie Poy, LONDON. In very good condition and working. The only fault being that the two blued screws holding the endstone cap do not match, so one is a replacement. DIAL : Very unusual steel dial, with gilded reserves. Early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands. CASE : Substantial gilt case, with no makers mark. Repousse work to the bezel and back. The back features a wonderful scene of St. In good condition throughout. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut. The high dome crystal is perfect. The movement is wound from the back, so although the unusual dial and case appear to be 18thc. They may not be original to the movement. However neither the dial plate of the movement nor the dial false plate have been modified and the movement fits the case perfectly. Godfrie Poy is listed in London between 1718 and 1753. 18th Century pocket watch. This is very nice gilt-metal p/c verge by Daniel De St. (Servant) to her Majesty, London, no. 2791, fine original signed dial and hands. He was renowned for his very fine clock watches and also his repeating watches made for the Turkish and Islamic markets. Note the makers inscription on the movement Servant to the Queen this has to be one of the early uses of a Royal Charter. The 35mm Enamel Dial is in very good condition, has Roman Numerals and Arabic Minutes in the outer chapter ring. (The spring clip for opening the movement at 6 is missing) The Verge-Fusee Movement bears serial number 2791 and is in very good cosmetic and working order. The 38mm Inner Case 66mm incl. Pendant Ring is in very good condition, but has lost most of the gilt colour on the outside and bears the Makers Mark T. The 48mm Outer is in excellent condition, but again has lost most of the gilt colour. Watches by this eminent Maker rarely reach the market.
