1745 George ii square pillar verge fusee pair cased pocket watch

A beautiful mid 18th century silver Verge pocket watch hallmarked for London 1745. The watch was made during the reign of King George II in the same year as the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. The outer case is in good condition with no major dents and is engraved with the Initials’J. R’ encircled with an ear of maize, however it doesn’t snap shut as it should. The inner case is in good condition and snaps shut just fine. It is also engraved with The name’J. Rogers’ which matches the initials on the outer case. It is hallmarked for London in 1745. The movement itself was made by’J. Josephson’ and is beautifully engraved as well as having a unique White Porcelain dial with the name’Thomas, Minerds’ painted on it in place of numerals. I have examined and cleaned the watch and found it requires a new Balance spring in order for it to run however this is a cheap and easy fix. The watch weighs 82.68 grammes (2.91 Ounces) and the outer case measures 4.7 centimetres (1.85 inches) in circumference excluding the Bow and stem. George III Silver Pair Cased Pocket Verge Watch By Thomas Taylor With Albert Chain A very handsome and heavy silver pair-cased pocket watch with a silver Albert chain. The watch has a finely pierced watch cock and engraved back plate. It has a verge movement by Thomas Taylor of London. The dial is white with black numerals and golden hands. There are ten service slips stored in the rear of the outer case dating from the late 1800s. The watch is fully hallmarked on the inner case for Birmingham 1808 and with a makers mark of WR. The outer case has the same hallmarks. It comes with a silver Albert chain with the watch key and a George III coin attached. The silver chain is marked but not dated and is probably later than the watch. Dimensions The outer case has a diameter of 2 ¼ inches (5.7cm) and a depth of ¾ of an inch (2cm). The diameter of the watch is 2 inches (5cm). The chain measures 16 inches (41cm). The total weight of the chain and watch are 197g. Condition The watch is in very good condition for its age. Both the inner and outer case are slightly worn as to be expected but are free from dents. The dial has some hairline cracks and a small chip. The crystal is quite worn but free from chips and cracks. The watch runs smoothly when placed on its back or front but stops when stood upright so it will need a service. Vintage 1771 George III Tarts of London Silver Repousse Pair Cased Pocket Watch in working order with Mahogany storage clock case and keys. A stunning timepiece with lovely enamel dial displaying a town river scene, it is made by Tarts of London and is stamped with the serial number 12100 The silver casings have faint hallmarks and the date mark looks to be 1771 which sits well with its serial number The watch case has a lovely patina to it with a couple of very minor dents, the repousse case is stunning with a romantic scene portrayed on its rear. The watch comes with 2 keys and winds and works perfectly, the winding key is a little loose but does the job. The enamel is a little bit damaged at the bottom of the dial from opening to get to the movement, could easily be repaired by building up enamel paint or left as is. Watch measures approx 4cm in diameter by 3cm deep, outer case measures approx 5cm in diameter The Wooden Clock case measures approx 20cm high by 9.5cm wide by 4.5cm deep and has been made at a later date but is still extremely old.
