Elgin Pocket Watch 18 Size 15j in Fahys Montauk Gold Filled Case – CH178. Even though it is running it may still need to be cleaned and serviced before use. The balance is good. It is a stem set movement. The Fahys Montauk Gold Filled case has some scratches, dings a small spot of brassing on the body. It has an initial “H”. The bow is brassy. Both front and back covers screw on and off. The dial has some light hairlines and scratches but overall looks very good. The crystal has some scratches but looks good. The serial number is 19245910 dates it to circa to 1917. The case is about 2-1/16 in diameter, not including crown or bow. 18th century english pocket watch. Signed key wind Movement by benjamin sidey, London, model no. Dial: later white enamel, with black Roman numerals, 5 minute markers, fleur-de-lis hands. Inner case: plain polished Gilt Sterling, bearing english hallmarks for London (leopard’s head), sterling (lion), maker IW, date letter O for 1771, measures 41mm, has glass crystal. (there is a piece of paper that says Benj sidey 1769 inside the outer case, that date may be for the movement). Outer case: ornate gilt silver, featuring repousse mythological scene with two figures within a scrolling framework, measures 47.5mm. As is condition, no key, we don’t know if it works, the outer case has some wear to the gilt finish on the high points, was in storage for many years, previously owned, from the collection of a local pocket watch collector. Any payments received for orders on those days will be processed on the following Tuesday afternoon. Our regular brick and mortar store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 6pm.
