  Hamilton 992b in stainless hamilton case. This is a near mint Hamilton 992b in a stainless steel hamilton case. It is the last stainless steel that I had in my collection. The movement has a gold center wheel and runs with full motion. The case is in very clean condition with a new glass crystal. It is to the best of my knowledge 100 percent original except for the glass crystal. It has two very small hairline cracks in original dia. You have to look close to see them. CASE: The rose gold-filled 18-size plain case features an open face. DIAL: This silver dial displays Roman numerals and Breguet hands. MOVT: This key-set #868 movement with hanging ruby cylinder escapement is gilt with a bridge style-cut-away layout. C 3-24 The case is in very good condition-later. D 3-36 The dial is in very good condition-later. M 3 The movement is in very good condition. R 9 Rarity on a scale of #1 being very common to #10 being extremely rare. Experts Opinion: Parachute shock system, compensation curb hanging ruby cylinder, ¼-hour repeater. Constructed by the master Breguet. Later cased in a lovely gold-filled glass back repeater case with Breguet style silver dial. A wonderful watch for the collection! Quarter Repeater The quarter repeater strikes the number of hours, and then the number of quarter hours since the last hour. The mechanism uses 2 chimes of different tones. The low tone usually signals the hours, and the high tone the quarter hours. As an example, if the time is 2:45, the quarter repeater sounds 2 low tones and after a short pause 3 high ones: “dong, dong, ding, ding, ding”. Alternatively, some use a pair of tones to distinguish the quarter hours: “dong, dong, ding-dong, ding-dong, ding-dong”. Key-wind/Key-set Movements The very first pocket watches up until the third quarter of the 19th century had key-wind and key-set movements. A watch key was necessary to wind the watch and to set the time. This was usually done by opening the case back and putting the key over the winding-arbor (which was set over the watch’s winding-wheel, to wind the mainspring) or by putting the key onto the setting-arbor, which was connected with the minute-wheel and turned the hands. Some watches of this period had the setting-arbor at the front of the watch, so that removing the crystal and bezel was necessary to set the time.   Antique Gilt Repousse Cased Verge Fusee pocket watch. This is a beautiful example of a repousse cased pocket watch. The watch is from about 1720 and the maker was well known for making repousse cases. The outer case where the decoration is, is in reasonable condition. It has been used so there is where across the back of the watch but that would be expected as the metal is so thin. However the parts that are intact are very detailed. The watch also includes its clasp jewel witch is a Garnet. The outer case also shut properly. The inner case is original and has also got its high curved glass. The movement is a nice early example. It is currently not working but If you put pressure on the fusee cone it will run. I have the original chain with the watch as well. It is not attached but it not broken. The dial is not original it would have been made of gold originally but it was scrapped in the 1740s as that is when the dial is from. Overall this is a lovely watch and would make a great part of anyone’s collection. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
