This lot features and absolutely wonderful and gorgeous 14-karat solid gold antique pocket watch, originally manufactured by the Atlas Watch Company of Chicago Illinois. The pocket watch case is signed Essex Superior with a six digit serial number on the inside back cover, where it is also signed 14k. The case is in remarkably clean and unweathered condition with so much intricate detailing and engraving! The movement is signed Atlas, as is the original porcelain dial. The front of the bezel is spring loaded and easily pops open with a gentle push of the original onion style crown. The original porcelain dial does have a chip out of it near the 7 position and a couple of other hairline cracks. I’m not clear on whether this type of pocket watch originally had an internal glass crystal or not, as there is not one at the moment. All three hands however are present. This pocket watch measures 2 and 1/4 inches from the top of the bow to the bottom edge of the case and it measures nearly 1 and 3/4 inches across the center of the outer case. The hands appear to set correctly though one of them does slightly catch on the second hand, but the movement is wound tight and though the balance wheel will slightly spin, it is not currently working. Therefore, consider it to be a restoration piece in fine original condition, and with a solid gold case such as this, certainly a worthy candidate for a good restoration.
